How to Decide Which Version to Download

Click here for a downloadable guide for choosing the correct Software.

There are a few things to consider before loading PSM95 or PSM software onto your computer. All PSM software is compatible with all Windows versions 95 or newer. This means that it is not compatible with Windows 3 or DOS or MAC OS or Unix. Each higher version of PSM has all the features of all the versions before it. That means that, for example, version 2.1 software includes the advanced data logging feature introduced in 2.0 software, the Report Generator found in version 1.2 and all other features before that.

Here is a list of the different versions of downloadable PSM software and their major features:

  • 3.1...Support for swell/sag triggering, transient capture, 115kbs communications , upgrading firmware via the internet, memory allocation, compatibility with the PS4000 and PS250.
  • 2.1...Support for Extended Memory, improved compatibility with laptop computers.
  • 2.0...Addition of custom data logging (advanced data logging features), support for features of firmware 2.60 to 2.8z.
  • 1.2...Addition of Report Generator program.

If you don't know which software your meter will work with and you have a PS3000 or PS4000, press the "Admin" button on your PowerSight meter and keep pressing it until the display reads, "Check Warranty?" and then press the "Yes" button. The top line of the display will now show "Warranty Expires". Your unit's software eligibility will now be displayed on the bottom line at the very right of the display ("2.1" means it is presently eligible for version 2.1). Look at the date at the left end of the bottom line. If that date is still in the future, then your meter is still under warranty and the meter can be made to work with the latest version of PSM software. Just download the highest level available and successfully connect to it. Your meter will automatically update the version eligibility shown on the botton line at the right to the new higher level. If you later connect to a lower version of PSM, the eligibility will not go down to that level.

Please note: The PS250 does not have a keypad, so repeatedly press the "Display" button until the display shows "Warranty Expires". The software eligibility of the meter will be displayed at the far right of the bottom line of the display ("3.0" means it is eligible for firmware version 3.0).

If your meter does not display "Check Warranty?", then your PowerSight will only work with version 1.2. You may want to consider buying an extended warranty (order WAR1 or WAR2) so you can upgrade your meter to the latest firmware and software and have the newest features available for your hardware.

    *WARNING*

If the firmware in the PowerSight is in the 2.9 or higher series, you can only use PSM version 2.1 or newer with it. This is because a new data structure was introduced in firmware 2.9 and PSM software 2.1. If you use an earlier version of software to set up a data log or try to download a log, there may be a data problem and your log may become unreadable. In this case contact Summit Technology. To avoid this, please use only PSM version 2.1 or higher with meters with firmware 2.9. To determine what firmware level is in your meter, press the "Admin" button on your PowerSight meter and keep pressing it until the display reads, "Identify Unit?"and then press the "Yes" button. The firmware version of the meter will be displayed at the very left of the bottom line of the display "FW:2.98" means firmware 2.98, of the 2.9 series, is loaded in it).

When you connect to PSM, you may get the warning, "Unit is not under warranty and not compatible with this software". This means that your software eligibility is below the version you are attempting to work with. See the discussion above to determine what version software the unit is eligible to work with.
