Communications

There is probably a solution to your connection and communications need. We strive to make sure you can connect to your PowerSight with any computer or network.

RS232 Communications - The COMM Cable [order COMM]

The PS4000, PS3000, and PS250 normally rely on RS232 serial communications.  Each of these products come with an RS232 serial cable.  This cable is terminated with a DB9 connector at the PC end and with an 8 pin mini-din connector at the PowerSight end.  The cable is 2 meters long (6 feet).  If you need a longer length, we provide the information you need to create one of your own.

All PowerSight meters have built-in opto-isolated communications for safe connection to the meter.  Serial speeds over this cable can run up to 115,200 bits/second.  Communications can be to a computer running our PowerSight Manager (PSM) software or to a process control computer that senses the output of PowerSight.

USB Communications - The USB to RS232 Converter [order USB-RS232]

This adapter allows you to connect your PowerSight to a USB connector on your PC.  This overcomes the limitation of PCs that do not have an RS232 serial port.  The attached cable plugs into one of your USB slots and the other end plugs into the DB9 end of the PowerSight communications cable (COMM, included with your meter).

Network Communications - Ethernet to RS232 Adapter [order NET-RS232]

This adapter allows you to connect your PowerSight to a standard 10/100BaseT network. This allows your PC to communicate locally or remotely to one or more PowerSight meters.  Remote tasks include sending data setups, starting and stopping monitoring, checking operation, and receiving data.  The adapter plugs onto DB9 end of the PowerSight communications cable (COMM, included with your meter) and then attaches directly to an Ethernet hub via a standard 10/100BaseT cable.  It comes with installation software.  You can be up and running in minutes.
